Summary
The Cornwall Council Appeals Committee met on Monday 6 October 2025, under the chairmanship of Councillor James Ball, to discuss several requests for travel assistance to schools. All requests for travel assistance were refused, with the exception of two appeals relating to Helston Community College and one relating to Cubert School, which were deferred.
School Travel Assistance Appeals
The committee considered several requests for travel assistance for pupils attending schools in Cornwall. The appeals were heard in private, as they contained information relating to individuals, in accordance with the Local Government Act 19721.
The committee made the following decisions regarding travel assistance:
- Cubert School: The appeal was deferred.
- Hayle Academy: The request for travel assistance for a pupil to attend Hayle Academy from their home address in Hayle was refused.
- Red Moor School: The request for travel assistance for a pupil to attend Red Moor School from their home address in Liskeard was refused.
- Launceston College: The request for travel assistance for a pupil to attend Launceston College from their home address in Launceston was refused.
- Helston Community College: The appeal was deferred.
- Helston Community College (Case 2): The request for travel assistance for a pupil to attend Helston Community College from their address near Penzance was refused.
- Helston Community College (Case 3): The request for travel assistance for a pupil to attend Helston Community College from their address near Penzance was refused.
Election of Chairman
At the beginning of the meeting, Councillor James Ball was elected Chairman of the meeting. Councillor Sean Smith proposed the motion, which was seconded by Councillor Jack Yelland.
