The Licensing Sub Committee D of Hackney Council met on Tuesday 9 December 2025. The committee approved a premises licence for Projectx44 at 44 Rivington Street, London, EC2A 3QP, with several conditions. The Licensing Sub-Committee D approved the application for a premises licence for Projectx44, located at 44 Rivington Street, London, EC2A 3QP. The decision was made in accordance with the Council’s Statement of Licensing Policy and included specific conditions to promote the licensing objectives.

The approved hours for the supply of alcohol are Monday to Saturday from 12:00 to 23:00, and Sunday from 12:00 to 22:30. The premises will open from 08:00 to 23:00 Monday to Saturday, and from 10:00 to 22:30 on Sundays.

Key conditions agreed upon include:

• Alcohol will only be served to seated customers via waiter/waitress service.
• No vertical drinking will be permitted.
• No off-sales of alcohol will be allowed.
• The outside area of the premises will not be used after 22:00, and no drinks will be permitted outside after this time.
• All outside furniture and benches must be brought inside from 22:00.
• No more than four smokers will be permitted outside the premises after 22:00.
• The maximum number of persons allowed on the premises at any one time will not exceed 60.
• An amended site plan including the basement level and outdoor area must be submitted to the Licensing Authority.

The Sub-Committee was satisfied that these conditions would mitigate the impact on the Shoreditch Special Policy Area¹ and local residents, and would not add to the cumulative impact already experienced in the area. Representations were received from the Licensing Authority, Environmental Health, and four local residents, primarily concerning prevention of public nuisance, crime and disorder, and public safety. The applicants agreed to various conditions to address these concerns, including acoustic measures and waste management protocols.

The Sub-Committee noted that the applicant would need to obtain a tables and chairs licence for the outside area, submit a Fire Risk Assessment, and a Dispersal Policy. They were also reminded of the need to operate in accordance with planning permission and to regularise hours as required.
