December 10, 2025 View on council websiteSummary
The Derbyshire County Council is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, 10 December 2025, at County Hall in Matlock. The agenda includes receiving apologies for absence and declarations of interest, as well as considering the appointment of honorary aldermen and alderwomen. The meeting will be live streamed and available for playback on the council's website and YouTube channel.
Appointment of Honorary Alderman and Alderwoman
The council will consider a proposal to confer the title of Honorary Alderwoman upon former Councillor Jean Innes, and Honorary Alderman upon former Councillors David Allen, Barry Bingham, Barry Lewis, Ron Mihaly, Robert Parkinson and Simon Spencer.
The report pack states that, at a meeting on 8 October 2025, the council nominated these former councillors in recognition of their valuable service. To confer the honorary title, the council must pass a resolution with a two-thirds majority of members present at the meeting.
If approved, the names of the appointed Aldermen and Alderwomen will be added to the Roll of Honorary Aldermen and Honorary Alderwomen held by the Monitoring Officer. They will also be presented with a badge of office and afforded certain privileges, including:
- The courtesy title of Honorary Alderman or Honorary Alderwoman
- Receiving a copy of the summons to council meetings
- Being invited to take part in civic events
- Being nominated to sit on outside bodies where a serving Elected Member is not required
- Being entitled to attend meetings of the council and being allocated a seat in the Council Chamber.
The report pack for the Appointment of Honorary Alderman and Alderwoman states that the recommendations are made:
To formally recognise those individuals who have rendered eminent service as past members.
The report pack also notes that the proposal complies with the Local Government Act 1972, which allows a principal council to confer the title of honorary alderman or alderwoman on people who have in the opinion of the Council rendered eminent service as past members
