The Nunhead and Peckham Rye Neighbourhood Community Meeting approved allocations totalling £183,500 for the Cleaner Greener Safer (CGS) programme, £76,084 for the Devolved Highways Budget (DHB), and £50,000 for the Neighbourhoods Fund. These decisions will support a variety of local improvement projects and community initiatives across the Nunhead and Peckham Rye neighbourhoods.
Cleaner Greener Safer 2026-27: Capital Funding Allocation
The meeting approved the reallocation of £183,500 to the 2026-27 Cleaner Greener Safer (CGS) budget for the Nunhead and Peckham Rye Neighbourhood area. This funding comprises underspent funds from previous years, current-year programme underspend, and funds from project cancellations. The allocated funds will support a range of projects aimed at improving the local environment.
In the Nunhead and Queens Road ward, £73,190 was allocated to projects including the development of the Kings Grove Community Garden (£8,000), the Daniels Road Community Garden Project (£3,000), refurbishment of the Juniper Playcourt (£10,000), a welcoming space for the community at Buchan Tenants TRA (£3,500), garden improvements at Barset Estate (£2,500), refurbishment of children's play equipment in Cossall Park (£30,000), green park benches for Juniper House (£2,000), the Nunhead Green Garden Works (£3,500), playground improvements at John Donne Primary School (£4,690), refurbishment of the Acorn Estate (£10,000), and a noticeboard for Juniper House (£1,500). An additional £2,610 was allocated for repainting the Nunhead Station sign.
For the Peckham Rye ward, £85,700 was allocated. This includes £3,280 for No More Muddy Feet
at The American Garden in Peckham Rye Park, £1,000 for planters at Limes Walk Entrance, £10,000 for Stuart Road Allotments Path Improvement, £1,500 for a noticeboard at 40A-F Linden Grove, £6,000 for the Nunhead Estate Community Garden, and £3,000 for routes to the parks in Cheltenham Road, Stuart Road, Ivydale Road and surrounding areas including Brockley Way. A significant allocation of £55,000 was made for the Sexby Gardens Gazebo and Benches in Peckham Rye Park, and £19,420 for footpath resurfacing on Fernholme Road, prioritising the west side.
Devolved Highways Budget 2026-27: Capital Funding Allocation
The meeting approved the reallocation of £76,084 to the 2026-27 Devolved Highways Budget (DHB) for the Nunhead and Peckham Rye Neighbourhood area. This funding includes underspent funds from previous years, current-year programme underspend, and funds from project cancellations.
In the Nunhead and Queens Road ward, £40,000 was allocated. This includes £30,000 for transforming the locality of Nunhead Train Station and £10,000 for cycle hangars on Lausanne Road.
For the Peckham Rye ward, £25,396 was allocated for footpath resurfacing on Fernholme Road, prioritising the west side, through a councillor proposal.
Allocation of Neighbourhood Grants 2026-27 (Neighbourhoods Fund)
The meeting agreed to allocate the available Neighbourhoods Fund 2026-27 for the Nunhead and Peckham Rye Neighbourhood area.
In the Nunhead and Queens Road ward, a total of £27,750 was allocated to various projects. These include:
- Miss Lorna Reeves: Garden Club - £1,000
- Maculele UK Afro-Brazilian Arts & Cultural Exchange Institute (ABACEI): Young people's social Inclusion - £2,500
- Cossall TRA: The Cossall Christmas Party - £2,000
- Nunhead's Voice Limited: The Rainbow Collective Youth Project - £2,000
- Art in the Park: Mosaicing memory together through Nature - £4,000
- Esteem Foundation: Cultural Food Bank in Southwark - £1,000
- The Purple Ladies: The Neighbourhood Cabaret by The Purple Ladies - £4,750
- Ms Joanna Shaw: Astbury Road goes wild for a day! - £2,500
- Westminster House Youth Club: Good Neighbours - £5,000
- Link Age Southwark: Dance for Over 60s in Nunhead - £2,500
- Peckham and Nunhead Free Film Festival: Peckham and Nunhead Free Film Festival - £2,750
In the Peckham Rye ward, a total of £21,500 was allocated to the following projects:
- Dulwich and District Twins Club: South East London Twins Plus - £3,000
- Friends of Peckham Rye Park: Peckham Rye Annual Fete - £3,500
- Peckham and Nunhead Free Film Festival: Peckham and Nunhead Free Film Festival - £3,200
- Nunhead Art Trail: Nunhead Art Trail - £3,500
- Tower Hamlets Youth Sport Foundation: Platform Cricket Hubs: Nunhead Knights - £1,800
- Friends of One Tree Hill: FrOTH Creative Nature Connected Events - £3,000
- Peckham Soup Kitchen: Play scheme – Peckham Rye Park - £2,000 (this is a provisional allocation, subject to the submission of a second form with budget details).
