Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Buckinghamshire and are not the council. About us
The High Wycombe Community Board was scheduled to discuss community priorities and project updates, including initiatives focused on youth engagement, environmental improvement, and information sharing. The meeting's agenda also included updates on existing projects and a review of the previous meeting's minutes.
Community Board Priorities and Project Updates
The board was scheduled to receive updates on several key community initiatives. These included:
- The Ark Youth Worker Training: This initiative aims to support and develop youth workers, likely through training programmes offered at The Ark Centre.
- Litter Picking Network and Great British Spring Clean: This project focuses on improving the local environment through organised litter picking events and participation in national clean-up campaigns. The report pack indicated a recommendation to
Build pride in the local area
by improving the urban environment and access to green space, working with local businesses, schools, and volunteer groups to support waste reduction and foster a connection with nature. By Autumn 2026, the Board hoped to play a coordinating role in linking grassroots efforts with council services. - Sacred Threads – Islamic Prayer Mat Exhibition: This cultural event was scheduled to be presented, likely showcasing Islamic art and tradition through prayer mats.
The report pack also detailed the three overarching Community Board priorities that were scheduled for discussion:
- Youth and empowering young people: This priority aims to advance and promote positive and sustainable youth engagement in High Wycombe. The plan was to collaborate with young people, the community, and voluntary sector partners to amplify local initiatives, explore outreach efforts, encourage creative alternatives, foster positive role models, and support improved outcomes for young people. By Summer 2026, the goal was to connect youth services, raise awareness of available support, and champion community-led solutions, empowering community champions and volunteers working with young people.
- Litter and fly tipping: This priority focuses on improving the condition of the urban environment and access to green space across High Wycombe. Through partnerships with local businesses, schools, and volunteer groups, the Board was to support initiatives such as waste reduction through behaviour change and developing a sense of ownership and responsibility that creates a connection with the natural environment and encourages access to nature.
- Information sharing to create community connectedness: This priority aims to improve how residents find out what is happening in High Wycombe. The Board was to act as a connector, supporting efforts to streamline local communications, signpost opportunities, and promote a more joined-up approach to community connectedness across the town.
