Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Hackney and are not the council. About us
The Planning Sub-Committee of Hackney Council was scheduled to discuss three significant planning applications for new residential developments. The committee was also set to review a report on delegated decisions made between March and April 2026.
Orwell Court, Pownall Road, Hackney, London, E8 4PP
The committee was scheduled to consider a proposal for the demolition of existing garages and structures at Orwell Court, located in the Haggerston ward, and the construction of 22 new residential dwellings. The plans also included associated amenity space, cycle parking, refuse stores, landscaping, and play space, along with improvements to the public realm.
Phases 3 & 4, Kings Crescent Estate, Queens Drive, N4 2SY
This application, situated in the Brownswood ward, concerned the variation of a condition from a previous planning permission. The proposal involved changes to an existing development, including an increase in the number of dwellings from 69 to 72. Specific amendments included changes to the massing of the Phase 1 'Atrium' building, alterations to the unit and tenure mix in Phase 1, and modifications to materiality and landscaping.
The Nightingale Estate, Downs Road, London, E5 8QH
In the Hackney Downs ward, the committee was scheduled to discuss an application related to The Nightingale Estate. The proposal involved the variation of a condition from a previous planning permission. The amendments included changes to address Building Safety Act requirements by introducing secondary escape cores in buildings over 18 metres, reductions in building heights for specific blocks, redesigns of cores, and adjustments to the tenure and unit mix. Other proposed changes included the removal of an existing service bay, the introduction of a new loading bay, modifications to external materials, a reduction in commercial floorspace with an increase in community floorspace, internal layout changes, and the relocation of cycle stores.
