The Derbyshire County Council Cabinet approved a recommendation to submit a proposal for a single unitary council for the whole of the Derby and Derbyshire area to the government. The decision followed a debate and vote on 13 November 2025, where the council supported the Uniting Derbyshire proposal. If approved, the new council would aim to simplify local government, improve accountability, and deliver better value for residents.

The council met to discuss and vote on a recommendation to be put to the cabinet regarding local government reorganisation, and ultimately voted to support a single unitary council for the whole Derby and Derbyshire area. The council also agreed to delegate authority to the Interim Chief Executive, Simon Stevens, in discussion with Councillor Alan Graves, Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Strategic Leadership, to make any amendments and additions to the submission document following feedback from the full council.

The Derbyshire County Council cabinet met on 13 November 2025, approving a highways capital programme for 2026-27, allocating funds for homelessness prevention under the Homes for Ukraine scheme, and agreeing to seek a partner to improve the council's operating model. Councillors also approved an updated whistleblowing policy and allocated Section 106 [^2] funding to children's services. Finally, the cabinet approved an adjustment to the Ashbourne Reborn construction contract value, which was discussed in private.

The Derbyshire County Council Cabinet met to discuss a range of issues, including the transfer of transport functions to the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA), budget monitoring, and the allocation of resources for digital connectivity and special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The cabinet approved recommendations regarding the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman's annual review letter, the Williamthorpe Clean Energy Facility, and a new primary school at Drakelow.
