At a meeting of Islington Council, councillors discussed a range of issues including the impact of government cuts, the importance of social value in procurement, and support for private renters. Councillors voted to support motions on embedding social value and compliance in procurement, supporting private renters, and recognising the Communication Workers Union (CWU) and the local campaign to save the Upper Street Post Office. An original motion opposing cuts to Personal Independence Payment (PIP) was amended and then carried.

Planning Sub Committee A - Thursday, 19th June, 2025 7.30 pm

At a meeting of the Islington Planning Sub-Committee A, councillors refused an application to build a roof terrace at 2-3 Hanover Yard following concerns about noise and the impact on the conservation area[^1]. Councillors approved a separate application to demolish a commercial garage and erect a mixed-use building at 3 Middleton Mews, which will include residential and office space, after revisions were made to address previous concerns.

The Islington Council Planning Committee met to discuss and approve a planning application for the Bemerton Estate South, involving the demolition of garages and construction of new dwellings and community space. At the Annual Council meeting, Councillor Jason Jackson was elected as Mayor of Islington, becoming the first black man to hold the post. Councillor Rosalyn Ngongoro was appointed as Deputy Mayor, and councillors were assigned to various committees and outside organisations. The council also formally appointed Paul Clarke as Interim Section 151 Officer[^1].
