The Hackney Council meeting on 23 July 2025 addressed violence against women and girls, community consultation, youth justice, members' allowances, and various reports. Councillors approved the Youth Justice Strategic Partnership Plan 2025-28, the Members’ Allowances Scheme 2025-26, and a motion to work together against violence towards women and girls. Children and Young People Scrutiny Commission - Tuesday 22 July 2025 7.00 pm
The Hackney Council Children and Young People Scrutiny Commission met to discuss changes to A-level provision at New City College, and to hear evidence on behaviour management and school inclusion from the National Association of Headteachers, the Mayor of London's Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) and local community organisations. The commission also agreed to add reviews of housing support for families of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), and improving outcomes for young black boys and girls to their work programme.
Audit Committee - Wednesday 18 June 2025 6.30 pm
The Hackney Council Audit Committee convened to discuss key financial and governance matters, including the external audit plan, financial updates, and risk management strategies. The committee reviewed and approved the minutes from the previous meeting, and also noted the terms of reference for the municipal year 2025/26. The committee also reviewed the proposed work programme for the coming year.
Children and Young People Scrutiny Commission - Monday 2 June 2025 7.00 pm
The Children and Young People's Scrutiny Commission met to discuss behaviour management and school inclusion, sexual and reproductive health services for young people, and the commission's work programme. The commission heard from Astrid Shun, head teacher at London East Alternative Provision Leap in Tower Hamlets, about behaviour management and school inclusion. Members also received an update on sexual and reproductive health services for young people in Hackney, following up on concerns raised at a previous meeting.
Annual Meeting, Council - Wednesday 14 May 2025 7.00 pm
The annual meeting of Hackney Council included the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, the establishment of committees, and a review of procedure rules. Councillors were also scheduled to discuss appointments to outside bodies and a dispensation to extend the six-month rule for Councillor Michael Levy.
