Living in Hackney Scrutiny Commission - Monday 9 December 2024 7.00 pm
The Commission considered two reports, one on trust and confidence in local policing and the second on serious violence and gang crime in the borough. After presentations by senior officers from the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) and Hackney Council, the Commission asked questions on the issues raised and the plans in place to address them. The Commission ended the meeting with a question and answer session with Councillor Susan Fajana-Thomas OBE, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Regulatory Services.
Council - Wednesday 27 November 2024 7.00 pm
This meeting was the third ordinary meeting of the 2024/2025 Municipal Year. It included discussion of a petition, scheduled questions from members of the public and Councillors, a report on the work of the Standards Committee, and consideration of motions on the hostile environment, rough sleeping, drug harm reduction and the two-child benefit cap. It also included the appointment of Councillors to outside bodies and the review of political balance on the Council's committees.
Children and Young People Scrutiny Commission - Tuesday 26 November 2024 7.00 pm
The meeting reviewed the Hackney Education department’s proposals for a second round of school closures and mergers in the borough, following on from 4 Hackney primary school closures in August 2024. No decision was made at the meeting, which was to hear evidence and inform any recommendations made by the Commission to the Cabinet.
Children and Young People Scrutiny Commission - Monday 14 October 2024 7.00 pm
The Children and Young People's Scrutiny Commission received an update on the Council's action plan following a recent Ofsted inspection of Children’s Social Care in July 2024, where the service was judged to be ‘good’. This was followed by a question and answer session with Mayor Philip Glanville, the Cabinet lead for a number of children and young people's services, on three key policy areas; (1) the commissioning of independent and non-maintained special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) provision, (2) the roll out of the free childcare entitlement in Hackney, and (3) the graduated SEND response in schools. The Commission also considered an update on the implementation of the Housing Support for Care Leavers Review.
Council - Wednesday 18 September 2024 7.00 pm
This meeting of Hackney Council was scheduled to include the results of recent by-elections, public questions to the Cabinet, the annual update on the Climate Action Plan, the adoption of a policy on Disclosure and Barring Service Checks for elected members, the annual report of the Overview and Scrutiny Panel, appointments to Outside Bodies and the consideration of six motions.
