The Resources and Fire & Rescue Overview and Scrutiny Committee met to discuss a new flag policy and a compulsory purchase order (CPO) for the Wheat Street/Leicester Road area in Nuneaton. Councillors voted against a proposal to send the flag policy back to the cabinet for further discussion, and also voted against a proposal to publish the reasons behind decisions on whether or not to allow a flag to be flown. The committee agreed to hold a future meeting to examine the Wheat Street/Leicester Road CPO in greater detail.

Warwickshire Police and Crime Panel Committee Member

Warwickshire Police and Crime Panel - Wednesday 23 July 2025 2.30 pm

The Warwickshire Police and Crime Panel met to appoint a new independent member and chair to the panel, and to discuss the Police and Crime Commissioner's annual report, grants, and the independent review into hunting related activities. Sue Gill was appointed as an independent member of the panel and then elected as Chair. The panel also noted reports on the annual grants and commissioned services operated by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC), and the progress of recommendations made following the Independent Review into the Policing of the Warwickshire Hunt.

County Council - Tuesday 22 July 2025 10.00 am

The meeting of the Warwickshire County Council on 22 July 2025 included a debate on developer contributions to the School Lane Junction scheme, which was ultimately deferred, and a tied vote on the appointment of political assistants, which was decided by the Chair's casting vote. The council also discussed additions to the education capital programme, the Audit and Standards Committee annual report, and a motion supporting the climate emergency declaration.

Communities Overview and Scrutiny Committee Committee Member

Communities Overview and Scrutiny Committee - Wednesday 25 June 2025 2.00 pm

The Communities Overview and Scrutiny Committee met to appoint a chair and vice-chair, endorse principles of effective scrutiny, discuss economic development, review the year-end integrated performance report, and consider customer feedback. Councillor Chris Mills was appointed chair and Councillor Stephen Shaw was appointed vice-chair of the committee. The committee endorsed the principles of effective overview and scrutiny set out in the appendix to the [Principles of Effective Overview and Scrutiny Covering Report June 2025 1].

At the annual general meeting of Warwickshire County Council, Councillor Edward Harris was elected as chair, Councillor Dale Keeling was elected as vice-chair, and Councillor Rob Howard was appointed as leader of the council. Councillors also approved appointments to committees and other bodies, received the annual report on the use of urgency and call-in procedures, reviewed the overview and scrutiny annual report, and approved amendments to contract standing orders.
