Purpose

The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI)
plays a central role in setting out how the Council will engage
with statutory consultees, stakeholders and communities in
planmaking (including neighbourhood planning) and development
management decisions.
There is a legal requirement on local authorities to ensure the SCI
is up to date and remains effective for community engagement. The
Council is required to review and update its Statement of Community
Involvement (SCI) every 5 years. This can be undertaken at the same
time as reviewing and updating a local plan.
This matter is concerned with approving the revised Draft SCI for
public consultation for a period of six weeks between Monday 8th
September 2025 to Monday 20th October 2025.
Further to consultation a report will be prepared for Executive on
the amended SCI document and its formal adoption. The document will
then be published for a period of three months during which parties
may raise a legal challenge to the adopted document.
