Full council record
Purpose

The current infrastructure for
skateboard parks is high maintenance, noisy, revenue intensive,
poor design and not located in the best areas for the city in terms
of demand.
Skateboarding often takes place
in public urbanised areas (Callaghan Square/Hayes) and is a
perceived nuisance to pedestrians.
The skatepark on Cardiff Bay Barrage has proven to be
well designed and popular with skateboarders as a destination
site.
Skateboarding is now an Olympic
sport and is excellent for engaging young people and promoting
physical activity and reducing obesity.
