Purpose

Fields in Trust is a registered
charity that protects, supports and champions parks and green
spaces. The charity works to protect parks, playing fields and open
spaces in perpetuity through legal agreements with landowners most
commonly the local authorities.
 
The Council currently has ten
sites that it has entered into protection with the charity under
agreements. These being Heath Park, Roath Recreation Ground, Moorland Park,
Llanishen Park, Pontprennau Playing Fields, Pontcanna Field, Hywel
Dda Open Space and Rumney Recreation Ground.
 
Through the proposed report the
Council will be looking to put a further tranche of site, to be
confirmed, in trust.

Cllr Peter Bradbury declared a personal and
prejudicial interest in this item as he is a Trustee of Ely/Caerau
Trust, and resides in an area mentioned within the
report.

  Cllr Bradbury left the
meeting and did not take part in decision making

 

Cllr Jen Burke declared a personal interest in this
item, as an area within her ward is mentioned within the
report.

 
RESOLVED: that
 

1)             
in principle (and subject to the outcome of the
consultation exercise set out within this report) the list of sites
for protection attached at Appendix A be approved.

 

2)             
the commencement of a consultation exercise set out
within this report be approved, the outcome of which to be reported
back at a future Cabinet meeting.
