The Cabinet is appointed
by the Council following recommendations from the Councillor elected as Leader
of the Council.
The Leader and the
Cabinet are responsible for delivering and implementing the budget and policies
decided by the full Council as part of the Budget and Policy Framework. As
such, the Cabinet determines many of the day-to-day operational matters within
the Council, with the exception of certain matters which are reserved by law to
the Council or delegated to other Committees (e.g. planning, licensing, and
personnel).
The different roles in
the Cabinet are detailed in Part
3.2 Portfolio Holder Responsibilities of the Council Constitution.
Meetings of the Cabinet
are broadcast on the Council’s website and can be viewed live and for a period
of six months after the meeting.
Prior to May 2023 the
Cabinet was known as the Executive. You
can access past papers through the Executive
archive.
The Leader has also
appointed a number of Member Champions.
These are Councillors chosen for their special interest and skills and passion
to help advocate on specific areas. You
can read more on our Member
Champions page.
