Council resolved on 14/12/2023 to write to the Deputy Prime Minister outlining opposition to plans reducing local democratic decision-making in planning. The council will continue to support collective LGA and London Councils' responses to consultations and will be informed of emerging central government policy. Planning committees will prepare mechanisms for councillors to express views on planning applications, and councillors will be notified weekly of all submitted applications. The council will review green-belt land, identify unapproved uses, and enforce against development degrading the green belt. The draft Local Plan will be reconsidered to include safeguards against applications negatively altering resident amenity.

Council resolved on 14/12/2023 to work with MPs to campaign against welfare reform bill cuts, monitor the "Timms Review" and the bill, and lobby MPs to oppose it. The council will monitor the acceleration of the back-to-work support package and request officers keep the People Committee informed proactively. Officers will foster an inclusive community, prioritise outreach to vulnerable groups, ensure council advice services are equipped to support PIP recipients and their carers, and help gather evidence, complete applications, and provide support for appeals. The council will enhance its Information, Advice and Guidance offer and continue to collaborate with partners.
