Purpose

Leicestershire County Council's Highways and Transport Depots are equipped with physical fuel bunkers. The bunkered fuel is predominantly used in vehicles and plant to facilitate the undertaking and delivery of statutory highways maintenance activities.
As part of the ongoing monitoring variances between physical dip volumes and inventory volumes have been identified on some tanks, the data has been monitored and verified to ensure validity. Some tanks have experienced equipment issues such as pulse meter failure and gauge issues, so a monitoring period has been instigated after rectification of the issue to ensure that any adjustment requests are assured.
As part of the ongoing monitoring, it has been determined that up to 4% variance is a suitable tolerance, as it can account for the characteristics of the products and the effect of any external factors, such as temperature, this figure will continue to be used as the benchmark going forward, should any future variances occur, the Council would be able to identify them swiftly and instruct a monitoring period prior to any future adjustment requests.
