Purpose

Over recent years, and particularly since the
opening of St Mary’s School, the Council has received
concerns regarding potential conflict between pedestrians walking
on Oldfield Road and vehicles. In light of these concerns and
following an informal consultation with the school, residents and
local businesses, an experimental scheme was implemented in Spring
2024 which made a section of the road one way (in the vicinity of
the railway bridge) to reduce traffic volume and allow for safer
movement of pedestrians. This report looks to make this scheme
permanent.
