Purpose

This report considers the results of an
informal consultation regarding a proposal to install two zebra
crossings with associated pavement widening around the junction of
Wellesley Road with Hampton Road in Twickenham. This proposal is
intended to improve road safety for children and young people
within the area accessing local schools.

Content

The SSA Executive Director of Environment and
Community Services:

i) Note the results of the consultation outlined in Sections
7.1-7.3 of the report.
ii) Agrees to proceed with the implementation of the proposed zebra
crossing on Hampton Road and changes to the toucan crossing on
Hampton Road (junction of Fifth Cross Road) as outlined in the
report.
iii) Agrees to advertise a notice under Section 23 of the Road
Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the zebra crossing on Hampton Road
and a traffic management order under section 6 of the same act for
some double yellow line restrictions as detailed on the drawing in
APPENDIX A of the report.
iv) Notes the opposition to the Wellesley Road zebra crossing and
agrees instead for the funding to be used to improve pedestrian and
cycle accessibility at the Hampton Road / Fifth Cross Road toucan
crossing. Any changes required to existing restrictions or parking
bays will be subject to a statutory consultation prior to
implementation.
