Purpose

A review of current bus service provision and
recommendations for improvements

Content

RESOLVED that the Transport & Air
Quality Committee.
 
1)  agrees with the
following key conclusions of work to date, recommending
the  priority areas for the
Borough’s bus services as being: -
 
 
i. 
improving bus service coverage and frequency in areas of low public
transport accessibility, particularly Heathfield, Hampton and
Ham;
 
ii. 
improving bus stop infrastructure, including bus shelters, seating
and information board;
 
iii. 
improving reliability across all routes, particularly those routes
where ward councillors have raised concerns;
 
iv. 
introducing a direct bus route linking Twickenham with
Kingston;
 
v. 
resolving the particular bus related problems in Barnes caused by
the closure of Hammersmith Bridge;
 
vi. 
supporting single deck services becoming double deck services where
service frequency of single deck services is not expected to
increase;
 
vii. 
strongly supporting accelerating the programme for replacing
diesel/petrol buses with electric buses.
 
2)  instructs
officers to lobby Transport for London on the priorities listed
in  paragraph 2.1.
 
3)  instructs that
a review of bus lane locations and times is reported to a
future
