Full council record
Purpose
The Nutanix Hyperconvergence Infrastructure is
an established technology within Surrey County Council and
comprises, servers, storage, networking and software in a node. The
majority of these nodes are due to go out of support in March 2027
with the existing support contract being in place until
4th January 2026.
The lifespan of a node is typically 5 years,
the 2026 support will make them 6 years old, at 7 years old they
will provide adequate capability, but replacement hardware will
deliver superior performance and capacity with another 5-year
lifespan.
The replacement of the hardware and software
will ensure SCC are in compliance with having a supported platform
which is capable of being updated and secured to the standards
required by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), which
mandates how security patching is managed. Without a support
contract, we are not entitled to updates and will put SCC at risk
of attack.
The objective of the procurement is to replace
the Nutanix Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) platform and
continue to provide the base for 100% of the virtual servers within
SCC. This will allow us to continue to deliver all internal
services for:
Adult
Children
Public Health
Surrey Fire and Rescue
Public web services
Document management
Surrey History Centre
Environment
Trading Standards
Data Governance
Chatbots
Robotics
GIS/Mapping
A new contract will be put in place for
Hyperconvergence Infrastructure and the contract term will be a
period of 5 years.
