Purpose

Following a diesel spill in the early hours of 09/07/2024,
approximately 10 miles of the A24 northbound requires resurfacing
as the diesel has degraded the surface of the road making it unsafe
to drive on.

was AGREED that:
 

1.          
Surrey Highways raise an order with the Term Maintenance
Contractor, Ringway to carry out the surfacing required. Current
estimates are that the works will cost between £1.5 and
£3m.

3.          
Surrey Highways will make a claim for the costs to rectify the
works through the insurers of the vehicle that caused the
spill.
 

Reasons for the decision

The
key route is not able to open safety to the public until the
diesel-soaked asphalt has been removed.
