Purpose

This report provides the Quarter 4
update for the Mayor’s Waste Improvement

Programme (MWIP) 2024/25 delivery
plan. This is in response to the Mayor’s declaration of a
waste emergency in Tower Hamlets, and a one-off investment of
£5m for 2024/25, to transform waste services.

DECISION:

 

1.    
approves the Quarter 4 Mayor’s Waste Improvement
Programme (MWIP) progress report; note the improvements in the
cleanliness of the borough and the expenditure of the £5m
investment.
 

2.    
approves the review and reorganisation of street cleansing
services, including the optimisation of resources and the
implementation of updated street cleansing schedules.
 

3.    
supports the continued monitoring of street cleanliness data,
using GIS tools and internal inspections.
 

4.    
approves the rollout of mobile technology to street cleansing
staff, to improve real-time reporting, operational responsiveness,
and service transparency.

Reasons for the decision

In line with
requirements of Working Together to Safeguard Children
2023,
this report must
be published and shared with the National Child Safeguarding
Practice Review Panel and Foundations by September 2025.
