Full council record

Purpose

The
purpose of this report is to provide information to support the
recommendation for the release of developer contributions to
supplement funding from Active Travel England that has been awarded
to two design projects in Royal Tunbridge Wells.

Decision

RESOLVED: That a total of
£36,219.61 from contributions secured pursuant to a planning
obligation relating to planning permission TW/12/02547 in respect
of the development at the Former Kent & Sussex Hospital site on
Mount Ephraim (A26), Royal Tunbridge Wells be utilised to
supplement Active Travel England funding towards two priority
design projects (Langton-Rusthall-Royal
Tunbridge Wells town centre cycle/pedestrian route design and Royal
Tunbridge Wells cross-town cycle/pedestrian route design) that are
included in the Council’s Draft Strategic Plan, be
approved.

Reasons for the decision

To
utilise the funds to undertake further design and engagement work
on the two active travel projects identified would support the
continuing works with the aim to enable residents to choose walking
and cycling as transport modes for shorter journeys, reducing
congestion and carbon emissions and improving air quality in the
town.

Alternative options considered

The
alternative option would be to return the funding to the
developer.
