Proposal to Review the Tunbridge Wells Air Quality Management Area
March 21, 2024 Cabinet (Cabinet collective) Unknown View on council websiteFull council record
Purpose
The Air
Quality Management Area (AQMA) in Tunbridge Wells was first
declared in 2005. Air quality in Tunbridge Wells has improved
considerably in recent years, to the point that for the last 5
years, pollution levels have been below the threshold required for
the declaration of an AQMA. DEFRA are concerned that Councils are
allowing AQMAs to remain in place after they cease to meet the
necessary criteria, and have therefore made it clear that we should
revoke the AQMA.
Decision
RESOLVED –
That the revocation of the A26 Air Quality
Management Area be approved, and that monitoring be
continued.
That the Head of Legal Partnership and Head of
Environment, Health and Housing be authorised to agree the wording
of, and issue, the A26 Air Quality Management Area Revocation
Notice be approved.
REASON FOR DECISION: To
ensure the Council continues to comply with all relevant Air
Quality legislation, guidance and best practice.
