Purpose

The Cabinet Member will consider approval for the Mandela Way electrification and capital work, including additional budget.

Decision

Summary of Decision: The Cabinet Member for Value for Money and Finance has made the decision to approve the additional budget of £7.970m required to complete the Mandela Way waste service depot electrification project to supplement the

available approved budget of £5.549m; and approved the Council moving to the next step of the project to appoint a works contractor for the project, a decision delegated to the Executive Director of Finance and Resources.

Reason for Decision: The approvals are required to progress delivery of the Mandela Way waste depot. This Council-owned site has been earmarked for redevelopment for use as a new waste and recycling collections fleet depot, with the intention for the planned works being completed prior to the commencement of the new Waste and Recycling Collections and Street Cleansing Services contract in September 2027.
