Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) renewal - Barbecues and Alcohol
September 29, 2026 Cabinet (Cabinet collective) Key decision Awaiting outcome View on council websiteFull council record
Purpose
The existing Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) relating to alcohol consumption and the prohibition of barbecues in public spaces were renewed in 2023 for a period of three years and are due to expire in 2026. The review will assess the effectiveness of both Orders in preventing anti-social behaviour, protecting public safety, reducing nuisance, and safeguarding public spaces across the Borough. Subject to the outcome of the review and evidence gathered, a decision will be sought on the renewal, amendment or replacement of the Orders to ensure the Council continues to have appropriate powers to manage alcohol-related anti-social behaviour and the risks associated with barbecues on public land.
