Purpose: To seek agreement from the Executive to the adoption of the North Northamptonshire Statement of Community Involvement (SCI), which outlines how local communities can get involved in the planning process, including the preparation of planning policy documents and the determination of planning applications. It explains who will be consulted, how and when consultation will take place

Content: RESOLVED KEY DECISION   That the Executive:   a)        Adopted the North Northamptonshire Statement of Community Involvement as set out at Appendix A.   b)        Delegated authority to the Executive Director of Place and Economy in consultation with the Executive Member for Planning and Growth to make any changes to the Statement of Community Involvement arising from future reviews.     Reason for Recommendation – To ensure the Council has an up-to-date SCI in place in accordance with government legislation. Alternative Options Considered – Resolve not to adopt the revised SCI as recommended; however, the Council is required to have an up-to-date SCI in place, setting out how the Council will consult on development plans and planning applications.  It’s anticipated the government’s planning reforms will soon come into force, although no specific date has been set, removing the need for an SCI.  However, it is considered that the benefit of preparing an updated SCI in terms of clarity and commitment outweighs the resources taken in preparing the document for adoption.
