The Royal Wootton Bassett and Cricklade Area Board met on 10 June 2026 to discuss funding applications, local highway improvements, and community initiatives. Key topics included the allocation of community grants, proposals for road safety measures, and updates from various community groups and partnerships.
Funding Applications
The Board was scheduled to consider several applications for funding across different streams. Under the Community Area Grants, applications included a £5,000 request from Purton Cricket Club for their pavilion project, £4,000 for Cricklade United Church to upgrade roof domes, £5,000 for Cricklade Town Hall to upgrade annexe toilets, £5,000 for Tockenham Village Hall for survey works, £3,000 for Broad Hinton Village Hall for new projector and sound equipment, and £5,000 for Cricklade Bowls Club for front entrance redevelopment.
For the Older and Vulnerable Adult Grants, an application for £200 was submitted by Vale View Gardens Charitable Trust for a free family fun day.
In the Young People Grants category, Wessex Archaeology Ltd requested £1,487 for their Festival of Archaeology 2026 event, and Purton Tennis Club sought £500 for youth cardio tennis sessions. The Board was also to note funding awards made under the Delegated Funding Process, including £995 to Cricklade Town Council for a cycle path service station.
Local Highway and Footway Improvement Group (LHFIG) Recommendations
The Board was to consider recommendations from the Local Highway and Footway Improvement Group (LHFIG) meeting held on 21 May 2026. These included proposals for waiting restrictions on Royal Wootton Bassett High Street (including Blackthorn Close, Bath Road, and Thames Lane in Cricklade), with an allocation of £6,500 and a third-party contribution of £1,625 (TBC).
Other recommendations included the allocation of £1,000 for rebound bollards at Pavenhill, Purton, with a £250 third-party contribution (TBC); £10,000 for a 20mph zone on Preston Lane, Lyneham, with a £2,500 third-party contribution (TBC); and £2,500 for a zebra crossing street lighting assessment on Nore Marsh Road, Royal Wootton Bassett, with a £1,250 third-party contribution (TBC).
Additionally, £350 was recommended for a street nameplate on Cloatley Crescent, Royal Wootton Bassett, with a full third-party contribution, and £5,000 for ad-hoc road markings across the Royal Wootton Bassett and Cricklade area, with no third-party contribution.
Information Items and Community Updates
The meeting was scheduled to include several information items. These comprised neighbourhood crime figures from the Police Team, updates from the Wiltshire Council Consultation Portal, and information on the Connect to Work programme, the Wiltshire Faith Communities Network, and the Community Governance Review.
A Community Spotlight
segment was planned to highlight positive outcomes from previous grant awards and share good news stories from partners. Verbal updates were expected from Wiltshire Police, town and parish councils, and community organisations including the Wiltshire and Swindon Road Safety Partnership, Wiltshire Police Violence Against Women and Girls initiatives, and the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service. Written updates were also to be noted from Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council, Cricklade Town Council, Wessex Community Action, Community First, and Alcoholics Anonymous.
An introduction to the new Wiltshire Community Lottery was scheduled, with an update from Andrew Jack, Strategic Engagement and Partnerships Manager.
Other Business
The Board was also to receive an update from the Community Care Group and discuss progress on the Local Action Plan under the Our Community Matters
item. An Ask Your Area Board
session was scheduled for public questions.
The meeting agenda also included the appointment of a lead member to the Local Highway and Footway Improvement Group (LHFIG) and a community discussion session, which could include topics such as water conditions relating to planning applications and rights of way across new housing developments.
The meeting was scheduled to conclude with the announcement of future meeting dates.
