Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Richmond upon Thames and are not the council. About us
The Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE) is scheduled to meet on Thursday 18 June 2026. The meeting agenda includes discussions on interfaith initiatives, national updates on Religious Education, and data concerning the Religious Education workforce.
Ideas for Interfaith Week and Other Projects
The council is scheduled to discuss ideas for Interfaith Week and any other related projects. This follows on from previous discussions about collaboration with the Richmond Faith and Belief Forum to explore how Religious Education can better involve young people in environmental issues. The Faith & Belief Forum also promotes the London Dangoor Awards, which celebrate RE and interfaith education projects across London, with nominations closing on 31st May 2026.
NATRE Workforce Data
A key item on the agenda is the National Association of Teachers of Religious Education (NATRE) workforce data. This data is intended to be noted and discussed, providing insights into the hours dedicated to Religious Education by teachers. Previous NATRE surveys have highlighted gaps in RE time and training, influencing national discussions with government and Ofsted.
National and Local Updates
The council is scheduled to receive and note newsletters from NASACRE (National Association of SACREs) and RE Today. These updates will cover national policy developments, such as the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government's policy paper Protecting What Matters: Towards a more confident, cohesive, and resilient United Kingdom,
which acknowledges the role of RE in fostering understanding of shared values and the role of SACREs in celebrating faith and belief communities. Local updates may also be shared, potentially including information on initiatives like the School Linking Programme, which connects students from different cultural or faith backgrounds.
Faith Direct Day Update
A verbal update is scheduled regarding the plans for Faith Direct Day. This event aims to engage young people in activities related to faith and belief.
Previous Meeting Minutes
The minutes from the previous SACRE meeting on 19 March 2026 are scheduled for approval, along with any matters arising from those minutes. At the previous meeting, discussions included the Curriculum and Assessment Review, guidance on Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE), and collaboration with the Richmond Faith and Belief Forum on environmental projects.
The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, 8 October 2026, at York House, commencing at 6:30 pm.
