The Overview & Scrutiny Committee of Tower Hamlets Council is scheduled to meet on Monday 22 June 2026. The meeting's agenda includes the establishment of scrutiny sub-committees and the appointment of members for the upcoming municipal year, as well as a review of the Council's Continuous Improvement Plan.
Establishment of Scrutiny Lead Members, Sub-Committees and Appointment of Members 2026/27
A significant portion of the meeting is scheduled to be dedicated to the establishment of the Council's scrutiny arrangements for the 2026/27 municipal year. This includes the proposed creation of six Scrutiny Lead Member portfolios: Adults and Health Services, Children & Education, Housing and Regeneration, Resources, Community Safety, and Environment and the Climate Emergency. The report outlines nominations for these roles and seeks approval for the establishment of three scrutiny sub-committees: Children & Education, Health and Adults Services, and Housing and Regeneration. Terms of reference for these sub-committees are to be approved, along with their membership. The committee will also consider nominations for the Inner North East London Joint Health And Overview Scrutiny Committee. Furthermore, the report details the co-option requirements for various roles, including statutory representatives for education and non-statutory resident and partner organisation representatives. The process for recruiting co-opted members is also to be noted.
Continuous Improvement Plan
The committee is scheduled to receive an update on the Council's Continuous Improvement Plan. This agenda item provides an opportunity for the committee to consider how its work will support the assurance of the plan's delivery.
Forthcoming Decisions
The committee is scheduled to review forthcoming decisions expected to be taken by the Mayor from the Executive Forward Plan. The aim of this review is to identify any areas that may require further scrutiny by the committee.
