Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Hounslow and are not the council. About us
The Hounslow Planning Committee is scheduled to discuss three significant planning applications at its upcoming meeting. These include proposals for temporary event use at Gunnersbury Park, the redevelopment of a site on Staines Road, and a major data centre development at Haslemere Heathrow Estate.
Gunnersbury Park Event Use
A key item for discussion is a proposal to change the use of areas within Gunnersbury Park for temporary events. The application seeks permission for up to 22 live event days per calendar year, with a total of 115 days including set-up and removal, running from January 2027 to December 2031. The report pack notes that the park is a Grade II* Listed Park and designated as Metropolitan Open Land. Concerns have been raised by local residents regarding noise, disturbance, and ecological impacts, while supporters highlight the economic and cultural benefits. Historic England and the Garden Trust have not objected but stress the importance of conservation. The proposal is recommended for approval subject to conditions.
80-82 Staines Road Redevelopment
The committee will also consider a major application for the redevelopment of 80-82 Staines Road, which involves the demolition of the existing gymnasium and the erection of two apartment blocks (five and six storeys) and 13 townhouses. The development would provide 53 homes, but no affordable housing due to viability issues, though a review mechanism is proposed. The scheme aims for a high level of sustainability, achieving an 80% reduction in carbon emissions compared to Building Regulations. The application is recommended for approval, subject to conditions and the completion of a Section 106 agreement.
Haslemere Heathrow Estate Data Centre
A significant outline planning application for the Haslemere Heathrow Estate1 is also scheduled for discussion. This proposal involves the demolition of existing industrial warehouse buildings and the phased redevelopment of the site for a data centre of up to 50,000 sqm GEA, along with up to 4,150 sqm GEA of work units. The development aims to intensify employment floorspace on this Locally Significant Industrial Site and support digital infrastructure. The application includes parameters for building height, footprint, and setbacks, with detailed design to be determined at a later stage. The proposal is considered to offer significant economic benefits, including job creation and the potential for heat export to the Hounslow District Heat Network. Transport for London has requested contributions towards feasibility studies for pedestrian and cyclist improvements. The application is recommended for approval, subject to conditions and a Section 106 agreement.
