New Nightclub Licence Approval

The committee approved a new licence for a nightclub at Granby Street, Leicester. The applicant, Nightlife Ventures Ltd, presented their case, highlighting the economic benefits and job creation potential. They assured the committee of robust security measures and noise control protocols.

Councillor Paul Convery raised concerns about potential disturbances to nearby residents. However, the applicant's commitment to soundproofing and a strict dispersal policy convinced the committee. The decision was made with the condition that the nightclub must adhere to a midnight closing time on weekdays and 2 AM on weekends.

Review of Existing Pub Licence

The committee reviewed the licence of The Red Lion Pub, located on High Street, Leicester, following multiple noise complaints from residents. The pub's management, represented by John Smith, argued that they had already taken steps to mitigate noise, including installing double glazing and limiting outdoor music.

Residents, however, reported that the measures were insufficient. One resident stated, The noise levels remain intolerable, especially during weekends, attributing the quote to a local resident. The committee decided to impose stricter conditions on the pub's licence, including reducing operating hours and mandating regular noise level checks.

Temporary Event Notices

Several Temporary Event Notices (TENs) were also discussed. The committee approved TENs for community events at Victoria Park and a charity fundraiser at De Montfort Hall. These approvals were granted with conditions to ensure public safety and minimal disruption to the surrounding areas.
