The Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Economic Growth approved the appropriation of Surrey County Council land at Working Road in Guildford. They also approved the start of public consultation on the matter. This decision was made to facilitate junction improvements associated with the Wayside Urban Village scheme.

Appropriation of Land at Stringers Common, Working Road, Guildford

The meeting was to decide whether to begin the process of appropriating land owned by Surrey County Council at Stringers Common for use by the council as part of the public highway.

Christopher Duke, Executive Director for Environment, Infrastructure and Growth at Surrey County Council, explained that:

this, the paper sets out what the process is, um, to, um, regarding the, uh, appropriation, um, and, uh, what, what, what is required, um, uh, in terms of, uh, uh, the relevant cabinet member, uh, decision, um, in order that the appropriation process can then proceed.

The land is required to facilitate junction improvements at the intersection of Working Road and the A322 as part of the Wayside Urban Village scheme.

The Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Economic growth agreed to two recommendations:

1. To appropriate the Surrey County Council land at Working Road as illustrated in Annex A of the report Item 3 - Appropriation of Land at Stringers Common Woking Road Guildford to the public highway as the land is not considered to be necessary to be retained as part of the common.
2. To delegate authority to the Executive Director for Environment, Infrastructure and Growth or equivalent, in consultation with the Cabinet Member for Highways Transport and Economic Growth to deal with all associated matters arising as part of the appropriation process.
