The Health, Wellbeing and Adult Social Care Scrutiny Committee met and discussed the performance of Adult Social Care, the performance of Moorfields Eye Hospital, and the Committee's workplan for 2024-25. The Committee noted the reports on Adult Social Care, and Moorfields but asked for more information about the transition between Children and Adult Social Care to be brought to their next meeting. The Committee resolved to approve their workplan for 2024-25.
Adult Social Care Performance
Councillor Croft raised concerns about the time it took residents to transition from Children's Social Care to Adult Social Care, noting that:
I've had a couple of cases recently of young people who are known to Adult Social Care, and then something has happened at 18, 19, where actually we've not quite got the transition right.
In response the officers noted that the threshold for receiving Adult Social Care was high and that:
it does involve having quite complex conversations often between Children's Services, and Adult Services
The Committee asked for more information about this process to be brought to their next meeting.
Moorfields Eye Hospital Performance
The Committee heard a report about the performance of Moorfields Eye Hospital.
Councillor Clarke noted that the report showed that:
80% of people over age 60 already live with sight loss
and asked what was being done to address this. Officers from the hospital noted that Moorfields was a specialist provider that saw patients from across London on referral from other parts of the NHS, and that they were working with:
each Integrated Care Board [to ensure] there [is] a significant other provider of healthcare from the NHS, for example Western Eye Hospital for the West of London and Barts Health for the East of London.
Workplan 2024-25
The Committee discussed their draft workplan for 2024-25 (Workplan 24 -25 - HWASC Scrutiny Committee). Councillor Hamdache proposed that the Committee approve the workplan, and this was seconded by Councillor Gilgunn.
The Committee resolved to approve the workplan.
