Housing Scrutiny Committee - Monday, 7th October, 2024 6.30 pm
October 7, 2024 View on council websiteSummary
The Housing Scrutiny Committee received an update from officers on the Regulator of Social Housing's Tenant Satisfaction Measures and noted that Camden's figures for anti-social behaviour were higher than in other local authorities because the Council allowed tenants to self-identify as having been victims of it. The committee also discussed housing repairs and capital works and noted the progress being made. Finally, the committee considered the Council's response to the recent report of the Cabinet Adviser on Improving Services to Camden Leaseholders and Advocating for Leaseholders and noted the measures being taken to improve services for leaseholders.
Regulator of Social Housing's Tenant Satisfaction Measures
The committee discussed a report on the Regulator of Social Housing's 1 Tenant Satisfaction Measures 2. The Housing Scrutiny Committee noted that the figures seemed to show that Camden might be recording anti-social behaviour 3 differently from other local authorities. Camden's definition of anti-social behaviour might mean its figures were higher because:
Camden [is] allowing the tenant to self-identify as having suffered from this.
Housing Repairs and Capital Works
The committee received a report providing an update on the Housing Repairs and Capital Works service. 4 The committee noted that:
The Council was working with the Skills Centre in Euston, to seek to ensure more people took up apprenticeships in the housing trades the borough needed, to ensure that there were high-quality operatives to undertake those roles in the future.
Improving Services to Camden Leaseholders
The committee considered a report on the Council's response to the recent report of the Cabinet Adviser on Improving Services to Camden Leaseholders and Advocating for Leaseholders. 5 Leaseholder Services would seek to:
...work with leaseholders in relation to concerns they had regarding bills that they sought to challenge regarding issues like disrepair.
