Councillor Denise Turner-Stewart, the Cabinet Member for Customer and Communities, approved two applications from the Your Fund Surrey scheme, awarding a total of £484,600 to two community projects.

Your Fund Surrey Application from Peaslake Memorial Hall

£114,500 was awarded to Peaslake Memorial Hall to build an extension to the rear of the hall to provide new changing rooms and a linking corridor.

The alterations will allow the facilities to be offered to other drama and arts organisations throughout the year and a wider range of activities and users such as Bridge Clubs, exercise classes and meetings.

The application received numerous letters of support from residents and local organisations, with many commenting on the value that the hall's activities provide to the community.

The decision report notes that the village of Peaslake is in the 9th most deprived decile nationally, according to the Index of Multiple Deprivation.

Your Fund Surrey Application from the Sunbury and Walton Sea Cadets

£370,100 was awarded to The Sunbury and Walton Sea Cadets to fit out the interior of their new waterborne training centre, including the construction of classrooms, a kitchen, changing rooms and a hall.

If successful in receiving funding from Your Fund Surrey, SWSC would be able to expand the broad range of sports, leisure, and recreational activities for both current and new sea cadets but also the wider community from Spelthorne, Elmbridge and surrounding Boroughs and Districts.

The report notes the success that the Sea Cadets have had in supporting young people with special educational needs and neurodiversity conditions, who represent more than 50% of their members.
