Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Harrow and are not the council. About us
The Planning Committee of Harrow Council met on Wednesday 16 April 2025 and granted planning permission for three separate applications. These included extensions to Alexandra School, a change of use for Belmont United Synagogue to include a nursery, and outline permission for the demolition of a dwelling and erection of new apartments at 550 Uxbridge Road.
Alexandra School Extensions
Planning permission was unanimously granted for single-storey extensions to Alexandra School in Alexandra Avenue, Rayners Lane, HA2 9DX. The extensions will accommodate an additional 30 students and 10 members of staff, and will involve the demolition of an existing modular building. The decision was made subject to conditions including the submission of a construction logistics plan, a car park management plan, and a staff travel plan.
Belmont United Synagogue Change of Use
The committee unanimously granted planning permission for a change of use at Belmont United Synagogue, 101 Vernon Drive, HA7 2BW. The proposal allows for a mixed use of Place of Worship (F1) and Nursery (E), enabling the facility to operate as a nursery for up to 60 children aged 6 weeks to 5 years old, alongside its existing use as a place of worship. The decision was subject to conditions including the implementation of a travel plan, a car park management plan, and a fire safety statement. An additional condition was imposed to limit the number of children in the playground at any one time.
550 Uxbridge Road Development
Outline permission was granted for the demolition of the existing dwelling at 550 Uxbridge Road, Hatch End, HA5 3LX, and the erection of a replacement building comprising 8 apartments. This decision was granted subject to the completion of a Section 106 legal agreement to secure off-site Biodiversity Net Gain provision. The agreement will cover a Biodiversity Habitat Management and Monitoring Plan over 30 years, and a Biodiversity Net Gain Plan. If the Section 106 agreement is not completed by 23rd July 2025, the decision to refuse planning permission will be delegated to the Chief Planning Officer. The development will include car parking with EV charging points and cycle storage. Conditions were also imposed relating to construction methods, site levels, fire safety, and refuse/recycling storage.
