Summary
The Camden Council Planning Committee met on 3 July 2025, considering planning applications for Stables Market, Elizabeth Mews and Rudall Crescent. Councillors granted conditional planning permission for an interactive entertainment venue in Stables Market, and for residential and commercial development in Elizabeth Mews and Rudall Crescent, with delegated authority given to officers to amend a condition relating to a privacy screen.
Planning Applications
Stables Market
Councillors considered an application for the lower and upper basement of the Atrium Building, Stables Market, for use as interactive entertainment and an immersive experience with ancillary events. The committee voted to grant conditional planning permission subject to a Section 106 agreement.
The planning officer noted that the proposed use was similar to the previous consent at the site and would protect and enhance the role and unique character of Camden Town Centre, contributing to the variety, vibrancy and choice within the markets for residents and visitors.
Elizabeth Mews
The committee considered an application for 27 Elizabeth Mews, which sought permission for a new basement extension for office space, erection of a mansard roof extension with a terrace, and a change of use of the first floor from office to a self-contained flat. Councillors voted to grant conditional planning permission subject to a Section 106 agreement.
During the discussion, officers addressed concerns about overlooking and light impact on properties opposite, stating that the impact on light and privacy had been assessed and was considered to be acceptable. They also noted that a Construction Management Plan (CMP) and bond would mitigate disruption during construction.
Rudall Crescent
Councillors discussed an application for 41 Rudall Crescent, which proposed remodelling of the existing building, including façade alterations, a rear extension with a first-floor terrace, and enlargement of the existing roof extension. The committee voted to grant conditional planning permission, delegating authority to officers to amend the wording of a condition relating to a privacy screen.
Councillor Linda Chung, speaking as a local ward councillor, agreed with residents objecting to the application, citing overbearing impact, loss of amenity from overlooking and noise, and inconsistency with Camden's design policies.
The head of development management advised that delegated authority was required to amend the wording of condition 5 to ensure the details of the privacy screen were submitted and approved by the local planning authority.
Other Business
The committee approved the minutes from the meetings held on 3 and 28 April 2025.
