August 28, 2025 View on council websiteSummary
The Audit and Corporate Governance (Staff Appeals) Sub-Committee of Camden Council scheduled a meeting for Thursday, 28 August 2025. Councillor Marcus Boyland, Cabinet Member for Best Start for Children and Families, Councillor Nancy Jirira, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, and Councillor Heather Johnson, Chair of Planning Committee, were scheduled to attend. The meeting was scheduled to include an appeal against dismissal by a former employee, as well as the approval of minutes from a previous meeting.
Appeal Against Dismissal
The sub-committee was scheduled to consider an appeal against dismissal submitted by a former employee of Camden Council. According to the agenda, the members were provided with several documents to inform their consideration:
- Papers submitted by the appellant
- A case summary and response to the grounds of appeal
- Documentation considered at the formal meeting
The report pack included a recommendation that the press and public be excluded from the proceedings during the consideration of this item. The reason stated was that the discussion was likely to include exempt information as defined in Category 1 of schedule 12A to the Local Government Act 19721. Specifically, it was noted that publicity in respect of Item 7 would be likely to lead to the disclosure of information relating to a particular employee or former employee of the Council.
Minutes
The sub-committee was scheduled to approve and sign the minutes of the meeting held on 1 May 2025.
Other Business
The agenda also included items regarding the election of a chair, apologies for absence, declarations of interest, and any other urgent business the chair considered necessary. The terms of reference for the sub-committee were listed as hearing and determining appeals under the council's Disciplinary Procedure and Absence Management Procedure.
