Councillors reviewed updates to the borough's parking policy, examined the implementation of the sustainable transport strategy, and evaluated major transport and highway projects. The commission also reviewed and noted its work programme for the year.

Crime, Environment and Transport Scrutiny Commission

Crime, Environment and Transport Scrutiny Commission - Tuesday 25th February 2025 7.00 p.m.

The Commission noted the draft Air Quality Action Plan 2025-2030, and the accompanying report from officers. It also noted the report on the council's Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) services. It agreed that the Air Quality Action Plan 2025-2030 should go out to public consultation, and made a number of recommendations about both reports to the relevant Cabinet members and officers.

Officer Key Decision - Tuesday 11th February 2025

Aled Richards, Corporate Director of Environment & Sustainable Transport, agreed to the implementation of the Section F East highways measures between Woodgrange Park station and Station Road in Newham. The measures will include new tree planting, sustainable urban drainage (SuDS), stepped separated cycle tracks, pedestrian and cycle safety improvements and changes to parking, waiting and loading restrictions. The stated aims of the scheme are to improve bus and general traffic journey times, and improve road safety. Mr Richards also agreed to advertise the Traffic Management Orders for the scheme, and to ‘make’ those orders, subject to no material objections.

Officer Key Decision - Friday 6th December 2024

Aled Richards, Corporate Director of Environment & Sustainable Transport at Newham Council, has agreed to implement new active travel measures on Romford Road between Station Road and Rabbits Road. The decision was made following a public engagement exercise carried out between 26 February and 24 March 2024 on the proposed measures. The decision will be implemented from 17 December 2024 unless it is called in by Councillors.
