The Tower Hamlets council meeting on 8 October 2025 addressed community safety concerns, debated motions on international issues, and reviewed local policies. Housing & Regeneration Scrutiny Sub Committee - Tuesday, 16th September, 2025 6.30 p.m.
The Housing & Regeneration Scrutiny Sub Committee met to discuss housing and regeneration priorities for 2025-26, receive an update on preparations for Awaab's Law[^2], and review the draft Housing Strategy. The committee discussed targets for affordable home building, improvements to council homes, and measures to address homelessness. They also talked about the challenges and opportunities in the private rented sector.
Development Committee - Thursday, 11th September, 2025 6.30 p.m.
The Tower Hamlets Development Committee voted to grant planning permission for the redevelopment of 5-6 The Oval, London, E2 9DT, subject to conditions and planning obligations. The development will include residential accommodation, shared living accommodation, workspace, cycle parking, play space, and landscaping. The decision followed concerns raised by residents of the adjacent Empress Works building regarding the impact on daylight and sunlight.
Health & Adults Scrutiny Sub-Committee - Thursday, 4th September, 2025 6.30 p.m.
The Health and Adults Scrutiny Sub-Committee met to discuss accident and emergency (A&E) waiting times, winter planning, and the committee's draft work programme. The committee heard that Royal London Hospital A&E is performing well, and discussed ways to improve performance further. They also scrutinised the Tower Hamlets winter plan, and agreed to add the Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection findings to their work programme.
