The Strategic Development Committee met to discuss a deferred planning application regarding Thomas More Square and a new planning application for the ArcelorMittal Orbit. The committee voted to approve both applications, subject to conditions and updated obligations.
Council - Wednesday, 8th October, 2025 7.00 p.m.
The Tower Hamlets council meeting on 8 October 2025 addressed community safety concerns, debated motions on international issues, and reviewed local policies. The council approved a motion to urge the Metropolitan Police to reconsider the decision to close the Bethnal Green Police Station's front counter, while a motion recognising the state of Palestine failed. Additionally, the council approved a revised Gambling Policy and noted the Annual Report of the Standards Advisory Committee.
Health & Adults Scrutiny Sub-Committee - Thursday, 4th September, 2025 6.30 p.m.
The Health and Adults Scrutiny Sub-Committee met to discuss accident and emergency (A&E) waiting times, winter planning, and the committee's draft work programme. The committee heard that Royal London Hospital A&E is performing well, and discussed ways to improve performance further. They also scrutinised the Tower Hamlets winter plan, and agreed to add the Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection findings to their work programme.

The Strategic Development Committee convened to discuss two planning applications: a large mixed-use development at Orchard Wharf and a change of use application at 27-29 Thomas More Square. The committee voted to approve the Orchard Wharf application, and voted to defer the Thomas More Square application for further negotiation.

The Strategic Development Committee (SDC) convened to discuss three planning applications and one listed building consent, all concerning the Truman Brewery site. The committee voted to refuse the application for a data centre at the corner of Grey Eagle Street and Kelvin Street, while also voting to refuse the application for the construction of a commercial building at Ely's Yard. The committee was minded to grant the planning application and listed building consent for the Truman's Brewery East site, but ultimately voted to refuse the application.
