Annual Meeting, Council - Wednesday, 14th May, 2025 7.00 p.m.
The Tower Hamlets Council meeting on 14 May 2025 included the election of a new speaker and deputy speaker, and decisions on the make-up of committees for the municipal year. Councillor Suluk Ahmed was elected as the new speaker, and Councillor Bellal Uddin as deputy speaker. The council also voted to adopt an independent chair for the Audit Committee and re-adopted the council's constitution.

The Overview and Security Committee met to discuss the Mayor's achievements and priorities, the Mayor's Waste Improvement Programme, and a progress update on actions to support local markets and traders. Councillors questioned the Mayor on topics ranging from hate crime to housing, and agreed to revisit the waste improvement programme in six months to assess progress on data collection and community engagement.
Audit Committee - Thursday, 24th April, 2025 6.30 p.m.
The Tower Hamlets Council Audit Committee convened on 24 April 2025, to discuss several key issues, including the 2023/24 External Auditors Annual Report, the Corporate Code of Governance update, the Internal Audit Annual Plan, and the Risk Management Report. The Housing and Regeneration Scrutiny Sub Committee met to discuss social landlord performance, progress against scrutiny recommendations, and the Regulator of Social Housing report.
