Extraordinary, Council - Tuesday, 19th November, 2024 6.30 pm, NEW
Councillor Una O'Halloran was elected as the new leader of Islington Council. She is the first leader of the council to have been born and raised in the borough, and the first to have been a lifelong council tenant. She was elected unanimously by councillors after being proposed and seconded by Labour councillors, and welcomed by councillors from the Green party.

The Executive agreed funding to deliver Phase 3 of the Resident Experience Programme; agreed the distribution of Islington’s allocation of the Household Support Fund; approved the adoption of a new policy for the future use of vacant school houses and other vacant caretakers’ houses; and agreed to adopt an innovative participatory grant-making approach to a new £500,000 Sanctuary Grant Programme using government asylum dispersal and refugee resettlement grant funding for local projects to support refugees, migrants and residents seeking asylum in the borough.
