SACRE - Wednesday 23rd October 2024 6.30 p.m.
The meeting began with the announcement that Newham SACRE had won a London-wide Interfaith Award for their work with the Student RE Matters programme. The meeting then discussed various upcoming events, including Diwali, Bandi Shor Devas, Vaisakhi, a civic carol service, and Interfaith Week, which will run from 10th-17th November 2024. The meeting concluded with an agreement to hold the next meeting on 12th February 2025.

The Council of Newham Council approved two motions, one regarding the establishment of a special task force to examine the causes of and possible solutions to the borough's temporary accommodation crisis, and one in support of the Labour government's national house building agenda. A motion calling on the council to adopt a number of policies advocated by the Green Party, including ending right to buy, introducing rent controls, and reforming council tax, was defeated.
Crime, Environment and Transport Scrutiny Commission - Tuesday 15th October 2024 7.00 p.m.
This meeting of the Crime, Environment and Transport Scrutiny Commission was scheduled to review several reports and consider how they relate to the safety and security of the people of Newham. This included looking at the performance of its Community Safety Partnership and scrutinising the effectiveness of policing in the borough, as well as proposals for the adoption of a new model to better coordinate community safety enforcement. The meeting was also scheduled to consider the adoption of a new Youth Safety Strategy.

The Council approved motions on the provision of public toilets in the borough, the transfer of planning powers from the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) to the Council, and a motion cracking down on knife crime. The Council also approved the allocation of seats on council committees, and the adoption of a revised complaints procedure. A Green motion on child poverty and a Green amendment to the London City Airport motion were both defeated.
