The Strategic Development Committee met to discuss two planning applications. Permission was granted for the demolition of Clare House and the construction of new residential dwellings and community floor space. Councillors also approved the erection of east and west extensions to the existing Global Switch House.
Strategic Development Committee - Wednesday, 12th March, 2025 6.45 p.m.
The committee approved the planning application for the demolition of the existing building at 100 to 136 Cavell Street and its replacement with a part five, part nine storey building for use as life science space, and they confirmed their earlier decision to grant permission for the demolition and redevelopment of 2-6 Commercial Street, 98,101-105 Whitechapel High Street and the Canon Barnett Primary School.
Extraordinary Meeting, Strategic Development Committee - Monday, 9th December, 2024 6.30 p.m.
The committee unanimously rejected the officer recommendation to approve the planning application for the development of Royal Mint Court. The committee also rejected the officer recommendation to approve the listed building consent for the heritage works associated with the same application. The committee deferred the application for the redevelopment of 2-6 Commercial Street, 98, 101-105 Whitechapel High Street and Canon Barnett Primary School for a site visit.

The committee made two decisions. It refused to grant permission for the proposed construction of student accommodation at 7 Brannan Street. It decided to grant permission to amend the operating hours of the Blackwall Way Yard Jetty. The committee also elected a new Chair for part of the meeting.

The committee also voted to approve changes to a Section 106 agreement to allow construction of a previously stalled residential development at Leven Road. The committee voted to defer a planning application for a purpose built student accommodation building at 7 Brannon Street to allow a site visit to take place.
