The Children and Education Scrutiny Sub-Committee met to discuss children's safeguarding, educational attainment at Key Stage 5[^2], and free school meals. The sub-committee agreed to submit a report on free school meals to the Mayor and Cabinet for consideration.

The committee heard two presentations, one on the provision of free school meals in Tower Hamlets and one on Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and the advice that the council gives to schools on it. At the end of the discussion about RSE, the committee voted to request that the cabinet review the council's advice to schools to ensure that it reflects national guidance.

The Children and Education Scrutiny Sub-Committee held a meeting on Thursday 05 December 2024 where they discussed the provision of school places in the borough, the corporate parenting strategy, and mental health provision for children and young people. No decisions were made at this meeting.
