The Tower Hamlets Council meeting on 14 May 2025 included the election of a new speaker and deputy speaker, and decisions on the make-up of committees for the municipal year. Councillor Suluk Ahmed was elected as the new speaker, and Councillor Bellal Uddin as deputy speaker. The council also voted to adopt an independent chair for the Audit Committee and re-adopted the council's constitution.

The Tower Hamlets Council Cabinet met to discuss several key issues, including mental health services for children, noise complaints, market improvements, dog control, school amalgamations, substance misuse services, and agency worker contracts, making decisions on each. The Cabinet agreed to insource the out of hours noise service, introduce a dog control public spaces protection order, and approve the amalgamation of Globe Primary and Rachel Keeling Nursery Schools. They also approved a contract for Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services, a redesign of the substance misuse service, and an agency worker contract extension with MATRIX.

Children and Young People’s Supported Housing Pathway

...to ensure continued and high-quality services for vulnerable children and young people, the Cabinet approved the re-procurement of the Tower Hamlets Children and Young People’s Supported Housing Pathway contract for three years, with the option for two 12-month extensions, starting June 1st, 2026, at an annual value of £1,783,325, and authorized the Corporate Director of Children's Services to award the contract to the best value bidder.
