Communities, Environment and Highways Select Committee - Wednesday, 17 July 2024 10.00 am
The meeting discussed an updated version of the Surrey RoadSafe Vision Zero Road Safety Strategy, the performance of Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, and the Your Fund Surrey community grant programme. The Committee supported the Vision Zero Road Safety Strategy and asked for more funding to be allocated to it, asked for more detailed performance measures for the Surrey Connect service and encouraged a renewed focus on communicating the impacts and benefits of the Your Fund Surrey scheme.

Surrey Council met to discuss, among other business, their relationship with the newly elected national government, the provision of special educational needs support, and performance issues with the Council’s highways contractor, Ringway Infrastructure Services. The Council voted, without dissent, to approve the content of the Cabinet meeting on 25 June 2024, the minutes of the meeting on 21 May 2024, and the Scrutiny Annual Report 2023-24. They also approved a plan to update the Member Development Strategy.

The meeting saw Councillor Saj Hussain and Councillor Tim Hall re-elected unopposed as Chair and Vice-Chair of the council respectively. It also saw the adoption of the scheme of proportionality for the coming year, approval of the appointment of various committees, chairmen and vice-chairmen, as well as the appointment of Michael Coughlin as Interim Head of Paid Service from 3 June 2024 to 18 August 2024. Matthew Woods was also appointed as the independent member of the Audit and Governance Committee for a period of four years.
Resources and Performance Select Committee - Wednesday, 15 May 2024 10.00 am
The Resources and Performance Select Committee meeting focused on two main topics, corporate health and safety, and an update on the work being undertaken by the Digital Business and Insights (DB&I) task group. The Committee accepted both reports and made four recommendations on health and safety. There was no decision on the DB&I report, as this is still in progress, but the Committee endorsed the group’s timetable for finalising its work and agreed to review the final report at a dedicated online meeting.
